Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival - Satellite Arts

Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival 2017

Slaithwaite Moonraking Festival motors on to its 31st Event for the 21st Century. Started in 1984 by Satellite Arts, this bi-ennial community arts festival celebrates Slaithwaite’s legend of The Moonrakers with music, stories and lanterns.  The 2017 theme is MOONmentum and will celebrate mechanical movement.  The festival runs from  Friday 17th February to the Finale Event on Saturday 25th February.

As well as co-ordinating the delivery of the festival we are specifically involved in:

The Moonraking Mechanicals – a street mumming troupe who will be acting out the story of the Moonraking at the Festival Finale and are looking for people of all ages – individuals, friendship and family groups to join in. Rehearsals will take place at Slaithwaite Community Centre on Sunday Feb 12th and 19th 2-4pm. Good fun and great costumes guaranteed.

The Space Carousel – special lantern- making workshops for young people at the Basement Youth Club

Hickory Dickory Dock – a clockwork tale for children featuring Grandy the Inventor on Wednesday Feb 22nd  at Slaithwaite Civic Hall
